About the event

Eating disorders occur more frequently and have a higher mortality rate in adolescents than any other mental health disorder, affecting all socioeconomic groups, underrepresented populations, and sexual orientations. Eating disorders are even more common than Type 2 Diabetes in this age group. Yet eating disorders remain under-recognized, under-diagnosed, and under-treated.

After this training, participants will be able to:

  • Provide overview of the current research on eating disorders and adolescent population.

  • Identify warning signs and symptoms of eating disorders in adolescents and when to refer to a specialized provider.

  • Describe four levels of treatment for eating disorders and the modalities that are commonly used to treat eating disorders Identify appropriate ways to engage support systems in the conversation about eating disorders and treatment options.

This training will be facilitated by The Emily Program’s Columbus Adolescent Residential Program Executive Director Jennifer Beck, LPCC-S.
